I created a Youtube video of part one (aka day one) of my recent trip to North Tea Lake in Algonquin. Michelle and I enjoyed the sandy beaches so much! It was like our very own tropical paradise!
As the weather warmed up, my brother asked if I would head out on a canoe trip with him and his girlfriend for her first-ever backcountry experience. Taking advantage of every opportunity to get into the backcountry this year, my answer, of course, was yes! Originally, the offer had been made to both my boyfriend Jeff and I; however, Jeff was unable to take the time off, leaving just the three of us to navigate an adequate route. My brother and I set to work a few weeks in advance to plan our trip, deciding on starting out at the Herb Lake Access Point in the Haliburton Highlands Water Trails. As Friday, June 26th -our scheduled departure date- neared, we filled our packs and food barrel, as well as loaded up the canoe and my kayak the night before to ensure we could leave bright and early to be on the water for as much of the weekend as possible. This trip was my first ever backcountry trip using my kayak instead of a canoe, and I was excited to test out how it woul...
With the weather getting nicer and nicer, I felt as though it was time to take a little break from my work life and escape into the wilderness with my good friend Michelle . We decided on a two-day canoe trip up in Algonquin Park from Thursday, June 14th to the 15th. We began planning for the trip a week or so in advance as this was our first trip of the season together, and my first ever canoe camping trip. We woke up early Thursday morning to load our packs and gear into the vehicle, before strapping on the canoe, loading her dog Snoopi into the back seat, and heading on our way. After stopping at the permit office, we proceeded to our access point at Tim River- #2. After unloading the vehicle, we stopped to take a few photos before loading the canoe and beginning our adventure! The day was a little breezy and overcast at first, but the sun started shinning as the day went on. We began paddling our way through the first stretch of the Tim River, admiring the scenery as it opene...
As winter seems to keep droning on, I found myself needing an escape from everyday life to tide me over until the weather warms and I can make it back out in my canoe. So, I decided to book a cabin with my boyfriend Jeff from February 15th-17th, for the family day long weekend. We ended up finding a great little cabin up in Kearney that we booked off of Airbnb. With no cell service and acres upon acres of land to explore, Jeff and I were really looking forward to our winter escape! Waking up fairly early on Saturday morning, Jeff and I loaded up the vehicle, heading on our way to get our groceries first, and then making it to the cabin by noon. The cabin we chose, titled on Airbnb as the Cozy Creek-Side Cabin , came equipped with a fully-stocked kitchenette with a sink, stove, fridge, and microwave, as well as a woodstove, board games, movies, and music. Despite not having any indoor plumbing, the cabin was a lot fancier than the backcountry trips we were used to, which made for a ni...
