About Me

As I find myself getting wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of work and school, and everything in between, there's one place I know I can retreat to that will help me regain my sanity. And that place is... the great outdoors! Whether I'm canoeing, kayaking, camping, hiking, or, pretty much any other outdoors-ey thing you can think of, I'm as happy as can be!

I'm Megan, a young, self-proclaimed adventurer who seeks out every opportunity I can to spend time enjoying the beauty that Canada has to offer. Never alone, I always seek out friends and family who will join me on my journeys into nature, exploring as much as I possibly can. I grew up camping with my family, right from when I was a baby, and my passion for adventure has only continued to grow, along with my evergrowing list of places I want to go or things I want to get to truly have the best experiences possible. 

If you, like me, are an outdoors-loving adventurer, then I hope you will join me in my blogging experience as I share with you my various adventures. Through my triumphs and multitude of learning moments, I hope to share with you as much as I possibly can. Whether you find yourself as a first-time adventurer or an experienced pro, we can all still continue to learn from each other, so just as much as I share with you my tips, tricks, and adventuring advice, I hope you will contribute as well, asking questions and sharing insights of your own! I'm excited to see where this journey takes us!

As Hans Christian Andersen said, "just living is not enough... one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower." So I'm going to find myself that sunshine and freedom as I take the time to stop and smell the roses and I hope you will too!

Adventure #10: Eaten Alive on Herb Lake

     As the weather warmed up, my brother asked if I would head out on a canoe trip with him and his girlfriend for her first-ever backcountry experience. Taking advantage of every opportunity to get into the backcountry this year, my answer, of course, was yes! Originally, the offer had been made to both my boyfriend Jeff and I; however, Jeff was unable to take the time off, leaving just the three of us to navigate an adequate route. My brother and I set to work a few weeks in advance to plan our trip, deciding on starting out at the Herb Lake Access Point in the Haliburton Highlands Water Trails. As Friday, June 26th -our scheduled departure date- neared, we filled our packs and food barrel, as well as loaded up the canoe and my kayak the night before to ensure we could leave bright and early to be on the water for as much of the weekend as possible. This trip was my first ever backcountry trip using my kayak instead of a canoe, and I was excited to test out how it would work!

Adventure #1: Adventures along the Tim River

With the weather getting nicer and nicer, I felt as though it was time to take a little break from my work life and escape into the wilderness with my good friend Michelle . We decided on a two-day canoe trip up in Algonquin Park from Thursday, June 14th to the 15th. We began planning for the trip a week or so in advance as this was our first trip of the season together, and my first ever canoe camping trip. We woke up early Thursday morning to load our packs and gear into the vehicle, before strapping on the canoe, loading her dog Snoopi into the back seat, and heading on our way. After stopping at the permit office, we proceeded to our access point at Tim River- #2. After unloading the vehicle, we stopped to take a few photos before loading the canoe and beginning our adventure! The day was a little breezy and overcast at first, but the sun started shinning as the day went on. Adventure #3: A Fall Trip to Algonquin to Close Out the Season

The weekend after Thanksgiving, as the weather was starting to get chilly, Michelle and I, once again, decided to load up our gear and head out for one final canoe trip before the season ended. We got together mid-day on Friday, October 12th, planning to head up to Rain Lake in Algonquin and follow a route involving 8 different lakes and lots of portaging. By the time we got to Rain Lake, after turning around once for forgotten paddles and a mishap with getting our permit from an office that was supposed to have been closed but wasn't,  Michelle and I arrived at the lake by around 4pm (much later than we had planned, but what can you do). We quickly unloaded the vehicle and loaded up the canoe at the dock before setting out on the lake, trying to get as far as we could in daylight.
